Turkey Burger
This is (in my opinion) the most perfect turkey burger. Here’s why: It’s easy to make, tastes delicious and is a healthier alternative to an all-beef burger. I like mine on a Hawaiian sweet roll bun with a mayo/ketchup sauce, lettuce and caramelized onions – but you can add your usual favorite toppings. Whether you make these for a dinner party or for your own family (you can easily freeze them), they are sure to be a healthy and tasty hit.
INGREDIENTS:
3 pounds ground turkey (I use two of the above packs from grocery store)
1/4 cup seasoned bread crumbs
1/4 cup finely diced onion
2 egg whites, lightly beaten
1/4 cup chopped fresh parsley
1 garlic clove, peeled and minced
1 teaspoon salt
1/4 teaspoon ground black pepper
HOW TO MAKE:
In a large bowl, mix together (using your hands) ground turkey, seasoned bread crumbs, onion, egg whites, parsley, garlic, salt, and pepper. Form into patties – should make about 12.
Cook the patties in a skillet (with olive oil) over medium heat, flipping once, until cooked through.
For the caramelized onions – Coat the bottom of a saute pan with olive oil and butter. Heat the pan on medium high heat. Add onion slices and stir to coat onions. Spread onions evenly over the pan and let cook, stirring occasionally. After 10 minutes, you can sprinkle some salt over the onions and you can add a little sugar (if you want) as well. Cook for another 20 minutes or so until golden brown (I like mine a little more well done…)
